No romance, only business

While studying design at the Higher Technical and Textile School at Tasmajdan, I had a "serious" offer from Professor Petar Jovanovic to switch to FON. I didn't even think about it, always determined to be an artist, even though the professor saw great potential in me, considering the fact that I passed his subject, which was management by the way, and I passed it by getting a big A. It is also true that I was the only student in the entire class at that time who seriously took up management and really learned everything ... And normally, I was feeling all proud and all.

I was the only one who "defended" the famous professor, who enjoyed great respect. Speaking in technical terms, no one really liked him. But I did. To me he was a great example of a real professor - serious, punctual, strict and always dressed in a perfectly tailored suit. He rarely laughed. His lectures were concise, skillfully guided. For me, he was a phiz.

So that’s how I discovered a love for management, especially project management. I liked that visionary line which it holds and especially that title of "top" manager. I admit that I almost forgot about my secret love, until the current director said, "... and you and I will handle these managerial jobs." WoohoW! It was set up so that immediately upon joining the new team, I became a man of cooperation with various consulting agencies and came in contact with the people to whom that term management is written down in diploma.

And just for that reason, I resisted buying pink-bound books and added Miroslav Miskovic's "I, the tycoon" and Phil Knight's "The Art of Victory" to my library.

The first one is more my "type"; i like practical, concrete and applicable tips (and the solutions of the same kind). Short, clear, precise, Spartan. I especially liked what Miskovic said about the "little things" that are crucial to a company's image and success - starting with arriving at a meeting 15 minutes early through the prospect of business travel and the importance it has for a young person at the beginning of its career.

There is one part where he talks about the relationship with Djindjic, Serbian ex-Prime Minister –and among other things that they have in common, they both used to climb the stairs by skipping 2 to 3 steps. I laughed reading this because I often joke with my friends when they tell me, "Slow down".

"How can you say to a man who runs the escalator to slow down"

I experienced the book as a true guide to contemporary business - with the discovery of all sorts of chuckles and their corroboration with concrete, real solutions and situations. Most of all, I liked the speediness at which Miskovic lives and works - he always misses his actions and even on the summer "I can't just lie down and sunbathe".

The memoirs of the founders of "Nike" actually look like a novel, a fairy tale, a dreamlike, American Dream Story. If I didn't know it was a real man and his path to success, it would be another story of a kid from Oregon who showed the world what he could do. Just like this, dream come true.

The story is very encouraging - despite all the losses, failures, problems (much of the story, Knight's firm is in big debt) the success is there. Whatever kind of the "crazy idea", its always finds its way, but with incredible enthusiasm, a lot of faith and a great team support. Phil writes in the style of a mentor who is always there by your shoulder and says "Come on, come on, you can do this, you'll be fine." For me, for example, I am particularly interested in his enthusiasm for non-random coincidences - the connection of names, dates, numbers ... It is as if a higher power is with you and victory is destined to be achieved.

I was taking notes from both books. We already know a lot from everyday’s life, maybe we just didn't realize their importance.

I identified the arrival of a new team with the transfer of a football star to another club. Staff and fan expectations must be met and exceeded. And if you are a star, then you also know that you have to be better than yourself.

This is also the width that is necessary for you if you want to flaunt and show ans present yourself in full glory. With faith and respect, the width of the wings increases. As Miskovic himself wrote, it is very important to create an atmosphere in the company for people to love their job and to live it and feel like something of their own.

As I was reading, I was thinking how to copy that reading material into my life, and so I got it out of somewhere. I often say, actually I insist that every relationship must be worked on, starting with family, through friends and all the way to business associates. You need to observe, listen, feel, empathize, beware, think ahead, remember what's important to people, know the right moment for the right word, support, to be brave, to put their feet back to the ground and take their heads out of the clouds, to congratulate, praise, to celebrate together, ven to grieve together ... to be THERE. Always.

People who deserve your attention need to know that they can count and lean on you, you have to do both, show and prove yourself. And this process does not stop, it must be maintained, it lives ... Every relationship is a small project whose goal, of course, has to be about having mutual satisfaction and benefit. And in order for everything to be authentic and argumentative - just be who you are, as Knight used to say.

PS The title came to me in a second, it has a humorous character, and the next book on the list is "Ljubica - the legend of a fatal Serb" so ... there is room for love at the end.
