Love is a dance between two souls

Third book of poetry “Beneath your palm” by Mariola Pantelić, was recently promoted in the Center of culture “Vlada Divljan” in Belgrade, Serbia, despite hard conditions provoked by pandemic that, sadly, affected also art and culture. It was the night of poetry, music and dance - Tango - which was an inspiration for the whole book.

Are poets born or do they become poets?

They are, in the first place, born with a talent, and then with years they become poets by reading other poets, but also by founding inspiration in the world around and inside them

How is the poem made?

I wrote a poem about that in my first book of poetry. It says that a poem can be made anytime, anywhere and in any mood, but the point is what is left of it!

Can we look at the poem like expression of something that was never said out loud?

Yes, usually. Often, it is expression of what was said many times before, but unfortunately there was no answer on the other side. Poem is, both, expression of spoken and unspoken, sometimes of conscious and unconscious, it depends.

You’ve published three books of poetry. Is there one that is special to you?

All three of them :) Every book was special to me in its own way. The first one was the first, and just by that it was special, it is the reflection of my girly dreams. In the second I’m more mature, and with it I’ve realized how this word of literature functiones, and the third one is the newest, so it is special just because it’s up to date, and also it is the book about one theme - Tango, which was not the case with the other two, whose themes were diverse.

The book of poetry “Beneath your palm” is Tango inspired. Why Tango?

I dance tango for five years now. When I’ve started I’ve never dreamed that Tango, and all about it, will be the source of enormous inspiration - but it happened. Tango is a dance, it’s an embrace and it is love - human love before everything. Tango is music, it’s Spanish language, Tango is poetry... everything that I love at one place.

Nowadays, word “love” loses its real meaning… Do you believe that love poetry can „heal“ the love itself?

A lot of words loses their menaning nowdays. Having said them is the easiest thing. It is important to prove that what is being spoken is also truthful. In that way poetry can „heal“, because poetry is real only when it’s honest, when it comes from the deepest parts of the soul „singing“ about what is its truth. In that way love poetry can „heal“ the word itself.

How would you describe love in one sentence?

As the song of our famous singer Zdravko Čolić said : “Love is just a word, and nothing more”, I can partially agree, because with word being spoken our love doesn’t get any smaller or bigger, it is just existing and dancing somewhere in between. Maybe I could say that love is the dance between two souls.
