Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

26.03.2020

To some, beauty does not mean much, and to others, it represents everything. But the same old dilemma remains - does it bring happiness and more comfortable life to those who has it, or maybe it just makes it all more complicated?

There are way too many interpretations of this six-letter word: loveliness, charm, affection, weirdness, irresistibility, divinity. The question is- who sees it in what, and who’s looks for it where?

Throughout history, the ideals of beauty have undergone a series of changes. Ancient Egypt praised slim women with narrow shoulders, Chinese dynasties forced and worshiped small feet, which came in very painful ways that even led to bone deformity, which was also the case in the early twentieth century when holes in the cheeks were a "must have “It went to the point that there was a specially designed device that helped to artificially form them on the face.

Foretop and believe it or not, not having eyelashes at all were novelties that the age of rebirth brought up, while in Queen Elizabeth Ist era, a porcelain white complexion, was considered being an unavoidable trend.

Corsets and lush long hair made Victorian-era women irresistible, blondes with untamed locks, thin waistlines and lavish breasts were exactly what made Merlin Monroe a symbol of the Sixties which remained a model of ideal woman even later. Modern times have brought uniformity, some would say artificial look, maybe even plastic alongside with it all.

The bottom line is one thing actually - you have to love yourself first, so you can give others the opportunity to do so.

When we look in the mirror, we tend to look for flaws first, instead of virtues, but try to look around and both, outside and within yourself. Put on a smile and remember the moment when the first wrinkle of laughter decorated your face. Remember how much you love that scar on your forehead because it is the memory of the craziest winter fun time of your life…

Smile, because you have someone to hug you or you decide to stay single and not in a relationship just for the sake of being in on, and because you have the right to make right choices for you. Because you love yourself at the first place and appreciate what you are.

Raise your head high, take another look at the one who’s looking at you from the mirror, and discover what lies in her gaze, for one thing is sure, beauty is only and exclusively in the eye of the beholder.
